Wrapped Up | What Can I Give?

What you need:

  • 2 full rolls of gift wrapping paper
  • 2 rolls of scotch tape
  • A couple of bows
  • 2 rolls of ribbon
  • 2 pairs of scissors (safety, of course)

Lesson / Game:

Today we are going to play a game!  Whoohoo!  We need two teams, how about the boys against the girls?  Unfortunately, I don’t have room up here for everyone, so I need only 3 volunteers from each side… 3 boys and 3 girls.

ONCE YOUR VOLUNTEERS COME UP YOU WILL EXPLAIN THE OBJECTIVE AND RULES OF THE GAME

Today we are going to find out once and for all who is the fastest.  Is it the boys or the girls?  I always hear some of each bragging about how fast they are but today we are going to settle it…  BUT this race isn’t just about speed, it is also about how nice the final product looks!

Today two of you from each team are going to gift wrap the third member of your team.  Oh yes… you have 2 minutes to see how completely AND how nicely you can gift wrap them.  I  want this to be REALLY nice!  Make it look like they just got gift wrapped at Macy’s by a professional.

You want to win because who has done the best job, wins candy for their ENTIRE TEAM!

When I say “GO” you can begin.  Cover them from head to toe in the paper, tape them up and put a bow on the top and may the best team win!

1… 2… 3… GO!

START THE TIME AND IDEALLY SOME CRAZY MUSIC ALSO.  ALLOW 2 MINUTES TO GO BY ALL THE WHILE GETTING THE CROWD INVOLVED IN CHEERING THEM ON!  WHEN THE TIME EXPIRES… STOP EVERYTHING AND THEN IT’S TIME TO JUDGE WHO HAS WON.

Wow!  Look at what we have here… two perfectly gift-wrapped children.  But we can only have one winner.  Hmmmmm….

MAKE IT SILLY AND FUN BEING A JUDGE.  POINT OUT SILLY THINGS LIKE “HMMM… I CAN STILL SEE TOES HERE”.

Wow… this is almost too close to call.  In fact, I think we may need to go stage 2.

HAND EACH TEAM A TRASH BAG

The first team to get their friend out of the wrapping paper completely AND to have every last tiny bit of the trash in the trash bag will be the final winners. Ready, set, GO!

FYI, THIS PART ISN’T STRICTLY NECESSARY BUT SAVES YOU A LOT OF CLEANUP LATER.

AWARD THE WINNING TEAM THEIR PRIZE OR IF YOU HAVE ENOUGH, YOU CAN SAY IT WAS JUST TOO CLOSE TO CALL AND SAY THAT BOTH TEAMS WON A PRIZE.

Wow… that was fun wasn’t it? But let’s get serious for a moment.  It is Christmas time and why do we celebrate Christmas?  YES! Because Jesus was born!  Christmas is really just a BIG BIRTHDAY PARTY for Jesus!

That is so awesome… so we need to give Him a gift don’t we?  Isn’t that what you are supposed to do at someone’s birthday party?  Give them a gift? So what can we give Jesus?

LET THE KIDS COME UP WITH IDEAS SUCH AS TOYS, MONEY, THINGS, ETC

But Jesus already HAS all those things!  He made the entire world and we don’t have enough things to give Him to impress Him.  So what can we give someone that LITERALLY has everything?

Well, there is only one thing… and we already wrapped it up a few minutes ago.  The only gift you can give Jesus that He may not already have IS YOU!

Today we can give ourselves to Him!

USE THIS OPPORTUNITY TO TALK ABOUT THE PLAN OF SALVATION; REPENTANCE, BAPTISM IN JESUS NAME AND RECEIVING THE HOLY GHOST.
