When God Gets Mad, Look Out! | Liquid Nitrogen and Cheese Puffs

What you need:

  • cheese puffs
  • liquid nitrogen
  • mixing bowl
  • tongs

Explanation of lesson:

When you put cheese puffs in liquid nitrogen and leave them for a little bit they get so incredibly cold that when you eat them you will see what looks like steam coming out of your mouth and nose. It is super cool.  It won’t hurt your bit that will make you look like a total hero to the kids. If you leave the puffs in there too long (5 minutes or more) they might get so cold that when you eat them they could potentially stick to your mouth which would not be good.

Quick note on liquid nitrogen:

Liquid nitrogen is super cool and can be a lot of fun but you do need to be careful with it. It is more than 300° below zero and as such you can definitely hurt yourself if you’re not careful. I recommend using gloves even though in this particular demonstration I am not.

You can generally find it at most welding supply stores. Just call around until you find someone in your area that has it. I do not know what the going rate is across the country but at my local store it cost me $3.25 per liter.

Most places will not give you liquid nitrogen unless you have the proper flask (Dewar flask) to put it into. Some places will rent you a flask for around $20-$30 per month. I purchased the one I use online from Amazon.com. This was quite a large expense but as I plan on using liquid nitrogen from time to time it was worth it to me. You can find one very similar to the one that I bought using the link below.

Lesson:

Today were going to be talking about a story from 2 Samuel chapter 22.

This story is about David and he was bragging on God just telling everybody how awesome his God is.

2 Samuel 22

  • 1 And David spake unto the Lord the words of this song in the day that the Lord had delivered him out of the hand of all his enemies, and out of the hand of Saul:
  • 2 And he said, The Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer;
  • 3 The God of my rock; in him will I trust: he is my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower, and my refuge, my saviour; thou savest me from violence.
  • 4 I will call on the Lord, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies.
  • 5 When the waves of death compassed me, the floods of ungodly men made me afraid;
  • 6 The sorrows of hell compassed me about; the snares of death prevented me;
  • 7 In my distress I called upon the Lord, and cried to my God:

So when you’re in trouble you need to call on God!  Don’t just sit there and pout but call on God because He can do something about it!

Verse 7 continues, And he did hear my voice out of his temple, and my cry did enter into his ears. And then LISTEN TO THIS! This is what happened!

  • 8 Then the earth shook and trembled; the foundations of heaven moved and shook, because he was wroth.  GOD WAS MAD!
  • 9 There went up a smoke out of his nostrils, and fire out of his mouth devoured: coals were kindled by it.

Oh yeah that’s what it says!  Smoke came out of His nostrils!

Now you’ve heard that people get so mad that smoke come out of the ears, well in this verse it says that smoke came out of God’s nose which is SO COOL!  Fire came out of his mouth and devoured… coals were kindled and the chapter goes on and on in this same vein.

God was angry and He helped David out of a terrible situation.  What I get out of all this, is that when God gets mad, LOOK OUT!  Don’t you dare pick on one of His kids because if you do, Daddy is stepping in.

I wonder what smoke would look like coming out of God’s nose? I really don’t know but I wonder if it might look something like this.

EAT ONE OF THE CHEESE PUFFS THAT IS SOAKED IN LIQUID NITROGEN AND THEN BREATHE THROUGH YOUR NOSE. IT IS MAGICAL!
