The Impossible Situation! | Cork From the Bottle

What You Need:

• Clear or at least transparent bottle with cork
• Handkerchief sitting on the table
• Something to push the cork into the bottle with such as a piece of dowel

Lesson:

Sometimes in life, you can be put in a seemingly impossible situation.

You may have been put there through the decisions and actions of others or perhaps it was your own decisions or mistakes that got you there but EITHER WAY, you feel that you are stuck!

HAVE A VOLUNTEER COME UP

PLACE THE CORK IN THE MOUTH OF THE BOTTLE AND USE THE STICK TO PUSH THE CORK ALL THE WAY INTO THE BOTTLE

And just like this cork is now thoroughly stuck in this bottle, that is how we feel.  (Tell your volunteer) Why don’t you go ahead and try to get the cork out of the bottle but make sure that nothing gets damaged in the process?  You can’t break the bottle and you can’t break the cork. Other than that, pretty much anything goes.

YOUR VOLUNTEER WILL TRY ALL KINDS OF THINGS TO GET THE CORK OUT BUT VERY LIKELY NONE OF THEM WILL WORK.  LET THEM WORK ON THIS FOR A WHILE BEFORE HAVING THEM STOP.

There is just quite simply no way out without breaking something.  At this point, to get free, we have only two options.  We can break the bottle or we can maybe crush or break apart the cork.  Either way though is destructive and will cause needless damage.

So we are stuck, aren’t we?  There is just no way out!  We are helpless and therefore we should just give up and let the enemy win.  Our mistakes are just too big for us to overcome… the opposition is too powerful.  OR IS THERE ANOTHER ANSWER?!

Yes, of course there is! There is always JESUS!  He is the one we should call in when we need an answer.  Don’t rely on your own strength or intelligence or talents… go to the one that knows how everything works because He made it all!

So for just a moment can we pretend that I am Jesus?  Trust me, I know I am not but just for the sake of this lesson, I will take that role.

INSERT THE HANDKERCHIEF INTO THE NECK OF THE BOTTLE.  SHAKE THE CORK DOWN ON THE HANDKERCHIEF AND SLOW PULL THE HANDKERCHIEF.  THE CORK WILL BE DRAWN INTO THE NECK AND THE HANDKERCHIEF WILL SURPRISINGLY BE ABLE TO PULL IT COMPLETELY FROM THE BOTTLE.

Jesus can free you! If you surrender to Him, He can help us get out of the mistakes we or others have made.  But I challenge you to have a relationship with Him that go beyond just calling on Him when you are in trouble.  You need to call on Him ALL the time… in good time and bad times.
