About the lesson:

This lesson revolves around a magic trick that allows you to talk about how incredible the Bible is and when you are ready you can make it burst into flames!

Based on the picture on the right, I cannot imagine why TSA took exception to the one I had packed in my luggage… to the extent of shutting down an airport, calling my wife off a plane and finally removing and keeping it.  Sigh… I will never understand those people.

Anyway, there is a small piece of fabric that you put lighter fluid on after which you close the cover.  You can let it sit for a bit but I wouldn’t recommend any more than 5 minutes or so.  When you are ready, you just crack the cover open a little bit, push the button on the bottom of the Bible and wait for the oohs and ahs of your ever-so-impressed audience.  🙂

Needed:

• Flaming magic bible – The one I purchased came from Top Hat Magic in Tulsa, Oklahoma.  You can order it through their website at http://www.tophatmagic.com/ecommerce/flaming-bible.cfm.  You can also probably make one yourself which I am about to try.  I will update you on my progress and if I succeed I will try to post a “how-to” follow up.
• Lighter fluid – you CANNOT use charcoal lighter fluid.  It must be the kind that you use to refill a Zippo or similar lighter.  The best kinds I have found are the Zippo or Ronsonol brands.  The bible lights from the fumes of the fluid and charcoal lighter fluid just will not light with the glow plug the bible uses.

Lesson:

Begin to talk to your class and pull out your magic fire bible without revealing that it is anything different than any other bible.

Who brought your bible today?  OH NO! Some of you didn’t?  Well, we will let it slide THIS time but you have got to bring your bible to church with you because it is our weapon to fight against the devil and his evil sidekicks.

The bible is just AWESOME!  It can be a comfort for you when you aren’t feeling so good or when life has got you down.

When you have a problem or just don’t feel like life is going so well, READ your bible! When you aren’t feeling happy, when maybe there is chaos in your life, maybe your parents are fighting or you are being bullied at school, READ your bible!

Psalm 119:105 Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.

Psalms 119:130 The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple.

When it feels like the world around you is dark and scary, READ your bible.  The Word of God will comfort you but it is not like just any other book. The word of God is ALIVE!  It is NOT for sissies!

Hebrews 4:12  For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

The Word of God is also like a fire!

Jeremiah 23:29 – [Is] not my word like as a fire? saith the LORD; and like a hammer [that] breaketh the rock in pieces

Jeremiah 20:8 – But his word was in mine heart as a burning fire shut up in my bones
