Put Your Success In God’s Hands | Object Lesson

This is an object lesson that can help you teach your class about how we need to put our lives in His hands and He will make sense out of it!

This was a lesson recorded right after Trystan got out of the hospital after her accident. She was still in her wheelchair at the time. I just found these recordings 5 years later!

This object lesson is an engaging visual that teaches children to trust God with their dreams and future instead of trying to build success on their own. It uses two simple magic props—the Joker Tube and the Mirror Box—to show how God brings everything into order when we put our lives in His hands. Make sure to practice the routine several times before performing it in front of your class. Timing and flow are key to making the visual seamless.

Begin with the Joker Tube and the three colored scarves or cloths that come with it. Use green, yellow, and red pieces to represent different parts of life. The green stands for growth, the yellow for faith and patience, and the red for our own desires—things like ambition, dreams, and personal success. Start by explaining that people often look at others who seem to have a perfect life and try to copy them, believing that if they follow the same pattern, they’ll achieve the same success.

Invite a volunteer to help as you place the scarves into the Joker Tube. Have them put in the green scarf first, then yellow, and finally the red one on top. Lift the tube to reveal the scarves now mixed up or out of order, with the red scarf unexpectedly at the bottom. Point out that when we try to build success on our own, things rarely go as planned. Life gets out of order, and what we thought would make us happy ends up leaving us frustrated and confused.

Explain that God doesn’t want us to copy someone else’s life or chase after our own version of success. He made each of us unique and has a special plan for every individual. Instead of trying to control everything ourselves, we need to place our success into God’s hands and trust Him to guide us.

Now introduce the Mirror Box. Hold it open to show that it is completely empty. Take the red scarf, which represents our personal ambitions and goals, and place it inside the box. Close it and set it aside, explaining that this is what happens when we pray and give our future to God. We surrender control and trust that He knows what is best for us.

Return to the Joker Tube and repeat the process with the remaining green and yellow scarves, symbolizing our faith and spiritual growth. Remind the children that the Bible says in Matthew 6:33, “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” When we put God first, everything else will fall into place.

After a few moments, open the Mirror Box to show that the red scarf is gone. Then lift the Joker Tube and reveal that all the scarves are now perfectly arranged. Explain that this represents how life looks when we trust God with our success. What once seemed out of order now fits together perfectly. God takes care of the details when we stop trying to control everything ourselves.

Close by reminding your class that putting success in God’s hands doesn’t mean giving up on dreams—it means trusting Him to lead, bless, and complete them in His perfect timing. When we seek God first, He makes sure everything else turns out exactly as it should.
