Boxing The Devil | Doing Things God’s Way
Here is the audio used in the skit
Characters:
- Joey Jab: Overconfident but clueless “boxer” determined to fight the devil.
- Trainer Tim: Well-meaning but just as mixed-up coach.
- Teacher: Calm, wise, and confident—steps in to show them the real way to win the fight.
Props Needed:
Boxing gloves, towel, whistle, cereal box labeled Toasty Oaties (Breakfast of Champions), a dumbbell, and a large Bible.
Scene 1 – The Big Fight
Joey stands center stage, shadowboxing dramatically.
Joey Jab: Jab! Jab! Right cross! Left uppercut! Oh yeah! The crowd goes wild! I did it! I got him!
Trainer Tim: Uh… Joey, who exactly did you “get”?
Joey: The devil! I’ve been hearing about him in church. I’m gonna finish him once and for all.
Trainer Tim: You’re going to fight the devil?
Joey: Yup! One hand tied behind my back. Watch this—(He throws wild punches.)—come on, devil!
Joey charges offstage. A crash, a thud, and a muffled yell. He limps back in, gloves hanging off.
Joey: He hit me with the left, then the right! I didn’t stand a chance! I’m a loser!
Trainer Tim: Why are you saying that?
Joey: Because he told me I was!
Trainer Tim: And you believed him? Come on, Joey. I’ve got something that’ll help.
He pulls out a self-help book labeled The Power of Positive Thinking.
Trainer Tim: You just need to think positive! Ponies! Puppies! Bubbles!
Joey: (Squints and groans) I think… I sprained my brain.
Trainer Tim: Alright, maybe try this—say, “I’m a warrior!”
Joey: I’m a warrior! I’m a warrior!
Joey charges off again. Another crash, followed by silence. He stumbles back, disheveled.
Joey: He hit me so hard my shoes fell off!
Scene 2 – The Breakfast of Champions
Trainer Tim: Okay, maybe the problem is your diet. You can’t fight the devil on an empty stomach!
He holds up a greasy burger bag.
Joey: Don’t worry! I already had breakfast—a Double Quarter Pounder, Big Mac, and a Baconator.
Trainer Tim: (Stares) It’s three-thirty in the afternoon.
Joey: I like to get an early start.
Trainer Tim: Joey, that’s not fuel—that’s a heart attack! You need this! (He holds up a cereal box labeled Toasty Oaties – Breakfast of Champions.)
Joey: Toasty Oaties? Really?
Trainer Tim: Absolutely! Power in every oat! Eat these, and you’ll be unstoppable.
Joey fumbles to open the box with his gloves still on.
Joey: I can’t open it! My gloves are stuck!
Trainer Tim: (Rolling his eyes) Here.
He opens it and pours cereal into Joey’s hand. Joey tastes it, makes a face.
Joey: They taste like cardboard!
Trainer Tim: That’s the flavor of discipline! Now go show that devil who’s boss!
Joey runs off again. Sounds of chaos. He runs back, hair messed up, socks half off.
Joey: There were seven of them back there this time! He took my shoes and my gloves! I quit!
Scene 3 – The “Workout” Plan
Trainer Tim: You can’t quit now! You just need to train.
He pulls out a dumbbell.
Joey: Oh no. You’re not making me exercise.
Trainer Tim: You’ve got to build strength if you want to win. Here—pick this up.
Joey grabs the dumbbell, groans, and immediately drops it.
Trainer Tim: No, you’re supposed to lift it up and down!
Joey: My arms are tired from eating cereal!
Trainer Tim: One rep. Just one.
Joey barely lifts it an inch.
Joey: Okay, okay—I feel strong now! Time to end this!
He runs off again. A huge crash. He crawls back, moaning.
Joey: He hit me so hard, I think I met next week!
Trainer Tim: Maybe we really should quit.
Scene 4 – The Real Answer
Teacher walks in, calm and confident, holding a Bible.
Teacher: What’s going on in here?
Joey: I’ve been trying to fight the devil, but he keeps knocking me out!
Trainer Tim: I’ve tried everything—positive thinking, cereal, workouts—nothing works!
Teacher: Did either of you try Jesus?
Joey and Trainer Tim: …Wait. What?
Teacher: The Bible doesn’t just say there’s an enemy—it also tells us how to defeat him.
She opens the Bible.
Teacher: Acts 2:38 says, “Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.”
Trainer Tim: So… no push-ups?
Teacher: Nope. You don’t need bigger muscles—you need the power of God’s Spirit.
Joey: So, if I repent, get baptized in Jesus’ Name, and receive the Holy Ghost… God will fight for me?
Teacher: Exactly! James 4:7 says, “Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”
Joey nods, energized. He sets down the dumbbell, folds his hands, and prays silently. Then he stands tall.
Joey: Alright. I’ve repented. I’m ready.
He runs offstage. A few seconds later, there’s a whoosh—and silence. Joey rushes back in, glowing with excitement.
Joey: He ran away! The devil ran away! I didn’t even touch him—God fought my battle for me!
Teacher: That’s because when you’re filled with the Holy Ghost, you’re fighting with God’s power, not your own.
Trainer Tim: So the Toasty Oaties didn’t help?
Teacher: Only the spiritual kind.
They all laugh.
Joey: From now on, I’m fighting my battles God’s way—repentance, baptism, and the Holy Ghost. That’s the only way to win!
Lesson Summary for Teachers:
This skit shows that we can’t defeat the enemy with our own strength, effort, or “positive thinking.” True power comes only from God through the Acts 2:38 plan—repentance, baptism in Jesus’ Name, and the Holy Ghost. Once we’re filled with His Spirit, we don’t have to fight alone. God fights for us, and the devil has no choice but to flee.Key Verse:
“But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you.” — Acts 1:8
