Don’t Suffocate the Holy Ghost

PLEASE IGNORE THE GOOFINESS IN THIS VIDEO THAT SAYS WE CANNOT FIND A SPIRITUAL APPLICATION.  LUCKILY, SOME KIND PEOPLE HELPED ME WITH THIS!

What you need:

  • Candle
  • Water
  • Food coloring
  • Ceramic plate
  • Lighter
  • Small-necked vase

How the demonstration works:

  • You place the candle in the middle of the plate and pour water around it, coloring the water to make it more visible.
  • Light the candle and place the vase over the candle the top edge of the vase must be completely submerged).
  • The candle will burn lower and lower and finally go out and the water will be sucked up into the vase.

Lesson:

candle1Place the candle in the middle of the plate. Pour the colored water on the plate to make a pool around the candle.

“This candle here represents us. The Bible says that we are the light of the world.  ‘Matthew 5:14 – Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid’.  When we get the Holy Ghost we are set on fire and are meant to illuminate the dark world around us which is also represented here by the dark water around the candle.”

candle2Light the candle.

“Sometimes though we forget our purpose in forget that we were saved not just so we could go to heaven but also so that we can share this wonderful gospel with those around us. We start to let the cares of this life slowly settle on us until we are completely surrounded.”

Put the vase upside down over the candle making sure that the entire top opening is submerged.

candle3“As you can see, the cares of this life slowly suffocate our Holy Ghost until it goes out completely. Sadly, not only are we failing to be a light but we also began to draw in the things of this world into our lives until we are just like it.”

The candle will slowly go out and then you will see some bubbling happen and the water will be drawn up into the face completely covering the candle

When you let your light shine in the world, God fills you with His spirit. You aren’t alone when you are witnessing… Along those lines I think are good.

One way I used this lesson was talking about how the water was the world and vase was the devil. How yes we can be a light in the world but when we allow the devil to come over us and put thought and ideas in our head then our light goes out and before long we are in the world.
