Makin’ Dem Bubbles – Joy of the Lord & Dry Ice

1st Angle

2nd Angle

Needed:

  • Food Coloring
  • Gloves
  • Small cooler
  • Dry ice – Smart and Final, some grocery stores (Kroger occasionally) and some packing supply places carry this.  You can run a google search for “dry ice” and your location to see if something pops up.
  • Different sized containers
  • Optional: 5-Gallon water bottle (not necessary but cool)
  • Dish soap

Prep:

  • Set out all of the different containers on the table and fill them about halfway with water and color them with food coloring
  • Break up the dry ice into sizes that will fit into your containers easily

Lesson:

dryice1Prior to beginning the lesson, you can sing the song, “I’ve got the Joy Joy Joy Joy down in my heart”.

These different containers represent each one of us. We are all different heights, shapes, colors and size.

Explain what the Holy Ghost is.

dryice2When you get the Holy Ghost you get other really neat things too like… THE FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT.  One of them that we are going to talk about today is called JOY!

Explain difference between joy and happiness

Happiness is based on the things that happen to us but joy is something we have with us all the time not matter what the circumstances are…

Put “joy” in each of the containers and watch them bubble

Joy is great and the longer you live for God, the better it gets!

dryice3ADD THE SOAP – once comes out you can pop the bubbles to make smoke.

Eventually you have so much joy that you can even start giving it to other people!

Grab handfuls and hand them to the kids

You know, all this work is making me thirsty.

PICK UP APPLE JUICE THAT HAS THE DRY ICE IN IT AND DRINK IT… Don’t accidentally drink the dry ice though.

You can let the kids play with the bubbles just make sure they can’t reach the dry ice.  I would generally use a tall cylinder that they are unable to reach into.
