Where Did This Come From? | Evolution & Balloon Animals

What you need:

  • A balloon animal
  • Optional: If you don’t have a balloon animal you can also use a stuffed animal

Lesson:

evolution 1Act as if you found the balloon animal laying on the ground and that you believe that it just popped into being from nowhere.

Tell the kids that over millions and millions of years this balloon dog just evolved into being.

Really drag this out and make the kids argue with you

The kids will have a big problem believing this and will tell you over and over that someone had to make it.

You then will make the parallel that since this balloon dog must have a balloon maker, a real dog must have a maker as well.

A real dog is many times more complicated than a balloon dog but somehow people accept that they just happened.

Have a group discussion about evolution versus creation.

I’ve used this one a few times. Very simple and yet deeply profound to the kids that get it. You can tell when they get it because they look like this, ???. I’m waiting for one of them to go like this? When they realize they’ve been lied to.
