Broken and Restored Life

Needed:

  • 1ea approximately 4’ rope (the rope needs to be fairly smooth so that it slides upon itself without much friction)

NOTE:  In the pictured illustrations I am using wire which I do NOT recommend.  This is for visual purposed only!

Lesson:

This is a great lesson that talks about the ability of God to put in life that has been broken back together again.  It is a magic trick and requires a little bit of practice to get right but it isn’t too difficult.

Hold up the rope so everyone can see it and show that it is one long unbroken piece

“This rope represents you and me and everyone else. Our lives are intact and everything is going well but then we encounter a problem.”

restored1“That problem can become worse and worse until finally the cares of this world break us in half completely.”Tie a square knot in the rope about halfway down its length. See the picture to understand how to tie a square knot. It is very simple once you practice it a bit.

restored2Use the scissors to cut the rope just where the short tag ends and touches the long side of the rope as you can see in the picture.

restored3Hold the rope up so they can see that the rope has been clearly cut in the middle and is only held together by the knot“As you can see, this rope has been destroyed. It is broken and not worth much anymore.“

“There is no one that can help at this point. They can try that many times they cause more problems in a fix. There’s only one that can help us and that of course is God.”

restored4Begin to wrap the rope around your hand and when you get to the knot pull it tight and it should begin to slide down the rope. Conceal the knot with your hand so no one can see what is happening.  You may have to pull rather hard at first to loosen the knot up but restored5afterward it should slide pretty easily.

“God can help to put even the most broken of lives back together again. He can help where no one else can.”

The rope is completely wrapped around your hand and you have the small piece of rope that you slid off concealed in the palm of your hand.

“Now let me get my Bible real quick and read it over this and see if we can make something neat happen.”

restored6Reach in your pocket and get your Bible while at the same time depositing in the same pocket the small piece of rope.  Pull out the Bible, wave it dramatically over the hand that has the rope wrapped around it then begin to dramatically and slowly unwind at the rope off of your hand.

Hold up the restored rope.“And look what God has done! That life that was broken and torn in pieces is now put together as good as new!“
